Sustainable development

At Hôtel Saint-Sulpice, we’re proud to lead the way in sustainable hospitality. Through innovative initiatives, responsible waste management, and a genuine concern for our local communities, we are committed to maintaining our status as a trailblazer in eco-conscious lodging.

Sustainable development at the Hôtel Saint-Sulpice

As of December 23, 2024 - Hôtel Saint-Sulpice is proud to announce that it is the first hotel in Quebec to earn the Silver Sustainable Tourism distinction from Greenstep, the only hotel certification recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) in Canada this year, according to the new standards. This distinction is the fruit of our participation in the Projet pour une hôtellerie durable (PHD), supported by the Association hôtelière du Grand Montréal (AHGM), aimed at improving the ecological and social practices of Quebec hotels.

EcoFund Verified is a program that holds us accountable as we measure and reduce our carbon footprint based on international standards and best practices. Instead of simply offsetting our emissions, we are actively working to cut down our consumption of fossil fuels, production of waste and and use of water, by investing in more efficient technologies and tracking our reductions.

In support of this, an EcoFund Contribution is included on every transaction. Through EcoFund, your stay is made more environmentally friendly and sustainable, and with your help, we tread lighter on this planet. Thank you for supporting responsible business.

  • Reducing at the Source

Since 2022, Hotel Saint-Sulpice has introduced a Green Program designed for guests staying more than two nights. By opting out of daily housekeeping, each participating guest helps us donate $5 to a monthly featured organization chosen by one of our team members. This approach encourages mindful resource use while supporting meaningful causes.

  • Eliminating Single-Use Plastic

To curb plastic waste, we have replaced disposable water bottles in our guestrooms with reusable carafes. Filtered water dispensers are provided on every floor, and a locally sourced Aquaovo purified water fountain in the lobby ensures our guests stay refreshed—without leaving a plastic footprint.

  • Promoting Emission-Free Transportation

In Quebec, 43% of greenhouse gases are transportation-related. As part of our commitment to cleaner air, we have installed three EV charging stations to encourage guests to choose low-impact travel. We also offer our employees a 20% discount on monthly STM passes, fostering a culture of public transportation and environmental stewardship.

  • Strengthening our community

Supporting local partners is a cornerstone of sustainable development and a key value for our hotel. We’ve collaborated with local artist Mezari, who has crafted all of our suite headboards. This partnership reflects our ongoing effort to champion local talent and invest in our regional economy.

  • Social Responsibility

We do not just recycle materials; we give them a new purpose. During renovations, all furniture set for disposal is first offered to our employees. Surplus pieces are donated to programs supporting newcomers. This ensures that useful items find a new home while reducing our overall waste.

  • Participation in the “ICI on recycle +” Program

We are currently earning certification under Quebec’s Recyc-Quebec “ICI on recycle +” program. This initiative recognizes proactive organizations committed to improving their waste management performance. By joining this movement, we reinforce our dedication to reducing our environmental impact and leading by example in the hospitality industry.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee

At Hôtel Saint-Sulpice, everyone deserves a respectful, inclusive, and equitable environment—one where each individual is celebrated for who they are. Our EDI committee works tirelessly to refine our practices, ensuring that every person feels genuinely welcomed and supported.
